The Saugatuck Valley Trail and Aspetuck Valley Trail are open for hiking, jogging, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Trails are open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset. These trails are maintained with the assistance of the Connecticut Forest and Park Association.

Get a map/permit

Our maps of these trails serve as your permit to use them. Maps must be carried by you at all times while you are on the trails. You may obtain trail maps/permits at kiosks located at the trailheads, by calling Aquarion’s Watershed and Environmental Office at (203) 452-3511, or by downloading them from www.ct.gov/dep.

Rules

In addition to the trail use rules listed on the maps, please note:

  • The trails map is considered your permit. You or an individual in your group must carry the map at all times while on the trails.
  • Hikers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult permit-holder.
  • The Saugatuck Universal Access Trail located at the northern end of the reservoir on Newtown Road in Redding is wheelchair accessible.
  • Please refer to the Saugatuck Valley Trail and Aspetuck Valley Trail maps for other trail use rules.

Prohibited uses

  • Swimming, wading, camping, alcoholic beverages, smoking, campfires, picnicking, littering, radios, motors, and vendors are prohibited.
  • Pets are prohibited.
  • No bicycles (road, mountain, cyclocross, etc.) or motorized vehicles are allowed.
  • Horseback riding is not permitted.
